Information in this report is not intended to directly or indirectly associate any potentially protected activity with criminality or to infer such activity violates federal law or presents a threat to national security. Nor is the report intended to associate criminality based solely on race, ethnicity, national origin or religion.

(U//LES) As of July 2016, a business owner from the south side of Chicago, Illinois, indicated unidentified individuals associated with the Black Lives Matter movement had planned an unspecified “action” against Chicago Police Department officers in the next few weeks (NFI).

(U//LES) The business owner warned salespeople against checking their sales accounts on the south side of the city for the next few weeks. The owner specifically noted avoiding the city intersections of South Homan Avenue and West Filmore Street and 70th Street and Racine Avenue. According to the business owner, salespeople would possibly have trouble if they came to Chicago’s south side (NFI).

(U//LES) Source comment: Based upon this warning, it was assumed “the action” against the Chicago Police Department Officers would be violent and take place possibly during the 23-24 July 2016 weekend or the following 30-31 July 2016 weekend. It was also believed white salespeople could possibly be harassed or assaulted if they entered black-owned businesses in close proximity to the cross-sections of the city as described above.
